Thursday started begninly. We did the hop on and off bus thing. It is a great way to get a feel for the area. We decided on a strategy after one time around. We were on the river that separates the city. I was going to get a photo of the Rio Grande Restaurant on the opposite bank. I pressed the shutter button and it fell to the ground. Not a good thing. I tried briefly, to fix it. It was going to be difficult, so put the part in the camera bag and used the phone camera. We went to the Triana barrio. This is a primarily residential area but has a heavy artist influence. We had lunch outside just off the river. We made reservations for Saturday dinner at the Rio Grande. This is a well known restaurant. It has been here since the 1950s. It was seen in Destinos, so we were able to keep up our streak of finding things from the movie.
We explored Triana. Especially the Ceramic area. Many cera mic artists live and work here. A lot of Talevera style work. At the apartment did a lot of research on camera repair in
Spain and specifically Sevilla. It was hopeless for us to try and fix it. Was giving up hope when I found a resource. Becky researched further and found the local address and that they did work on Olympus cameras. We walk ran twenty minutes to get to the shop before it closed. They said they could fix it but it might not be ready until Tuesday. So good news and bad news. The trips I could
really use the long lens for were Friday and Monday. Oh well.
Friday was our trip to the fighting bull and Andulian horse ranches. We got on the bus after being told we were going to ranches. It turns out they switched us and we were going to a place in the mountains and at the end of the trip we would get 45 minutes at a ranch. I won't go into details, but it was not pretty. Our money was refunded before the end of the trip. The trip through the mountains was very uncomfortable for me (as anyone who knows my fear of heights). Could not have been a worse scenario. We did get our 45 minutes on the ranch. It was very interesting and informative. Learned the bulls can not see red (colorblind). The cape and red muletta are very heavy. The Matadors must be ambidextrous as the bulls may be left or right oriented. We did not get back from this fiasco until 9:30. Had dinner at our Salvador friends restaurant. At 9:45 it was empty by 10:00 it was packed and rocking. Don't know how they do it. And they train young. One group had a new born with and he/she slept through it all. Received great news. The camera would be ready Saturday morning.
Got the camera on Saturday. We were shot after the long previous day. So a late start. By the time we got to the cathedral and other sites in the area, it was packed with long lines. Saturday is always busy. Decided to try and get special passes for Tuesday. We found the Cerveceria Giraldo. This is another restaurant from Destinos. It is a small tapas type restaurant. We had a fabulous lunch. Did some window shopping and wandered back to th apartment, trying to make sense of th winding, sometimes narrow roads. Th roads change names every two or three feet so maps are useless. Got some paper work done. Trying to catch up on the blog. We are trying to get photos from phones, etc., onto my iPad. Should have them on the blog soon.
Tonight Restaurante Rio Grande. Should be a treat.
